Before she was attorney general: Pam Bondi, a $25,000 check and Trump University

In 2013 Bondi solicited a donation that came from Trump's charity while her office fielded questions about a fraud suit against Trump University. Florida never acted.

2013, revisited 2024  |  Summary by Accountability Desk, based on the reporting credited below

In 2013, as Florida's attorney general, Pam Bondi personally asked Trump for a contribution to a political committee backing her re-election. The $25,000 check came from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, a charity that is barred from political giving. It arrived as her office was telling reporters it was reviewing New York's fraud lawsuit against Trump University; Florida had received more than 20 complaints about Trump's seminars.

Florida did not join New York's case or open its own. Trump later hosted a fundraiser for Bondi at Mar-a-Lago. In 2016 Trump settled the Trump University cases for $25 million. Bondi became U.S. attorney general in 2025; Trump fired her in April 2026 and replaced her with his former personal defense lawyer, Todd Blanche.
