Top Homeland Security Democrat tells Noem to her face that she violated the law
At a December 2025 hearing, Rep. Bennie Thompson listed what he called illegal actions and called on the secretary to resign.
Opening a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on threats to the homeland, Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi told Noem, “You have systematically dismantled the Department of Homeland Security,” accusing her of putting her interests ahead of the department's and breaking the law, and called on her to resign.
Other Democrats accused her of ignoring Congress and the courts. Fox News noted that many of the examples Thompson cited were still being fought in court. Noem left the hearing early for a FEMA meeting. She is no longer Homeland Security secretary.
